I fell in love with technical hand drafting at 15, and went on to study architecture in college. It was there I was taught observational drawing and how to design around a sense of place. After school I was fortunate to work as an exhibit designer for aquariums, museums, and zoos. It was through this work I discovered how to immerse a visitor into a story, whether it was the formation of the Earth or a walk through the Amazon rain forest, we worked as a multidisciplinary team to tell an engaging story.
I furthered my studies taking classes in architectural preservation, where I learned how to research and write about the land, buildings, and the people who shaped these places. I am fascinated by history, and the many untold stories waiting to be discovered.
I fell in love with illustration creating my wedding invitations. It was at the beginning of this career path when we were blessed instead with a pregnancy. Raising my son has been the most joyous time of my life, but my own art was put on hold. Having a child opened my world to children's books with the amazing art and fantastic stories exploding off every page. One day I watched my son fearlessly dive into making marks on a paper and knew I should be fearless like him too. I have been making art everyday since.
Writing and illustrating for children pulls from every part of my life and experiences. I couldn't imagine a better career for myself at this point in my life.
